The Department of Animal Services has several programs to assist with the cost of the sterilization of your animal companion at participating veterinary hospitals if you live in the City of Los Angeles.

Discount Coupon Spay/Neuter Program *

Discount Coupons have a value of $30, which goes towards the cost of surgery.  This program is available to all City residents.  To see a list of Rescue Organizations who distribute the Discount Coupons for the Department, please click here.

Spay/Neuter Adoption Program

If an individual elects to adopt an un-sterilized dog or cat from one of the Department’s Animal Care Centers, the adopter pays $28 for a healthy animal’s sterilization and $40 for animal’s sterilization when surgery has to be deferred for health reasons.  Some instances may require the adopter to pay an additional cost for the surgery at the veterinary hospital.

Large Dog Adoption Program

If an individual elects to adopt a dog that is 50 lbs. or heavier, the adopter only pays $28 for a healthy animal’s sterilization and $40 for animal’s sterilization when the surgery has to be deferred.  In addition, the Department will pay the participating veterinary hospital the remaining cost of the surgery. 

S/N PROGRAMS FOR LOW-INCOME, SENIOR CITIZENS & PERMANENTLY DISABLED CITY OF LOS ANGELES RESIDENTS

Free Certificate Spay/Neuter Program *

Free Certificates have a value of $70 that covers the entire cost of surgery.  Free Certificates available to City residents with a yearly combined household income of $40,000 per year or less; this includes low-income with no age limit, low-income Senior Citizens 62 years of age or older, and  low- income permanently disabled.

HOW TO OBTAIN AND REDEEM BIG FIX SPAY/NEUTER

Spay/neuter discount coupons & free certificates are distributed at all six Animal Care Centers and at a number of partner organizations. The number of coupons is limited by available refunds and distributed first come first served each month. You may wish to call your nearest Animal Care Center to check supplies. The spay/neuter discount coupons & free certificateswill be issued to you, along with a list of veterinary hospitals that participate in the Big Fix program.  Select one of the veterinarians from the list and schedule an appointment for your companion animal's sterilization. Be sure to mention that you wish to use the Discount Coupon as partial payment or the free cert as full payment for the surgery. At the time of the appointment, present this coupon/free cert to the vet hospital. Any other services outside the cost of sterilization would be at the owner's expense.
